Prediction: Republicans will cave, and agree to at least some tax increases in return for giving the Democrat Socialists another blank check. The Democrat Socialists will speedily waste every penny of the anticipated new revenues on new spending without doing one piddling thing about the debt. Those new revenues won’t materialize, and the economy’s stinking corpse will continue to moulder; in fact, actual revenues will drop. Everyone will express shock and dismay over the entirely predictable results of the same old folly. Then the Democrat Socialists will scream about needing another credit card they can max out as quickly as possible to avert another unthinkable, unspecified catastrophe. Republicans will harrumph and draw lines in the sand even as they’re tripping over their own feet to stumble across them. Lather, rinse, repeat — endlessly.
Government will get bigger, greedier, less competent, and even more broke. Democrat Socialists will complain that it’s not enough and argue for lots more of the same. Republicans will complain about Democrat Socialists, as they trot right along behind them over the cliff — reluctantly and with great sorrow and concern, of course. All of us caught in the web weaved by these deceitful charlatans will struggle harder to make ends meet, and suffer more as a consequence of their meddling and thievery.
Take it to the bank, folks. Actually, you’d probably do better to stick it under the mattress, metaphorically speaking, or bury it in the backyard, or convert it to gold. In any event, it’s the easiest prediction anybody ever made, as there’s absolutely no chance it won’t come true. All of it.
No need to thank me. We need to thank them. Properly, in a way they won’t ever forget. Politicians swinging by their necks from lampposts and heads on pikes oughta do nicely.
Update! Bonus note, on talk of demanding a balanced-budget amendment: umm, you’re joking, right? What exactly would be the point? They would ignore it just as blithely and completely as they ignore the rest of the Constitution. What we need is a new crop of leaders, not a new crop of rules for the old ones to piss over.
Obvious update! The headline says it all: “If Obama ignores the debt limit, he’ll totally get away with it.” Of course he will. There’s no holding a greasy shitweasel like him to account for anything. Never has been. His whole “career” has been an adequate enough demonstration of that.
